Rosalind had put real force into that kick.
Sean curled up on the ground, his mouth full of blood.
Rachel was so scared she couldn't speak, her face deathly pale.
Rosalind's eyes smoldered with fury. She bent down, grabbed him, and pulled him up. "I never wanted to get physical in front of Grandma," she said, her voice low and dangerous, "but people like you are just asking for it."
Sean cowered, looking pleadingly at Mrs. Yates Sr. "Mom, say something! Mom!"
"So now you remember to call her Mom?" A crimson glint flashed in Rosalind's eyes as she forced his face up. "When you threw Grandma out, did you remember she was your mother then?!"
Thud!
Rosalind kicked him again. The palpable aura of violence she exuded frightened everyone in the alley. She had been suppressing her true nature for too long while living with Megan, always pretending. She was not a good person by nature, and this sudden eruption of her true self was enough to make hearts pound.
At the same time, downstairs at The Guild of Pax, Galeno, who was with Fitch, suddenly stopped walking. Before Fitch could ask what was wrong, Galeno looked up, his eyes slowly returning to their original color.
Deep in the mountains of Sol, something unknown had happened. A flock of crows suddenly burst from the forest, flying over the highway and heading toward the city. The once-bright day began to turn overcast.
Rachel's hand trembled as she reached for her phone to call the police. "She's trying to kill him!"
Rosalind turned her head, her eyes flashing, ready to move again.
Suddenly, a cool, elegant hand landed on her wrist. A voice, carrying the scent of herbs, came through, crisp and pleasant. "Did someone bully you?"
Rosalind turned and was met with a devastatingly handsome face. It was her patient.
He carried himself with a noble grace, his skin a cool white, and his deep eyes were fixed on her. His presence felt like a calming chant in an ancient temple, a gentle breeze soothing the soul.
Rosalind's heart, which had been pounding with rage just moments ago, grew much calmer. It was probably because of the bracelet he wore, which contained something to soothe the mind. She met his gaze, and after a moment's hesitation, she nodded.
