"Of course not!" the middle-aged woman said, standing on a hillside and glancing around nervously. Her voice dropped to a guarded tone. "Didn't you tell us when you left not to tell anyone about either of you?"
Yolanda's eyes narrowed. "What if they offered you money to talk?"
"We took the money," the woman said with a strange smile. "But we gave them false information. Besides, someone else was paying us not to let anyone find her."
Only then did Yolanda truly relax. "Mom, you did the right thing."
The woman was none other than Gina Collins, the one responsible for the baby swap years ago.
It had been a long time since Gina had heard herself called 'Mom', and her eyes welled up with tears. "Yolanda, your father and I have been doing exactly as you said. And you mentioned that if we ever admitted what we did back then, it would be considered human trafficking, and we'd go to jail. We're so lucky to have you."
"Mm," Yolanda replied, having gotten the information she wanted. She had no desire to prolong the conversation. "Mom, we still need to be careful. Once this all blows over, I'll bring you and Dad to live in the city."
Gina's eyes lit up. "Really? Your older brother has to come too! You promised you'd buy him a house!"
"Of course, it's true," Yolanda said with a smile. "You just wait and enjoy a life of luxury."
Buy him a house? A bunch of dirt-poor leeches! Yolanda's eyes were cold, but her voice was still soothing. "You must never tell anyone about me. If it comes to the worst, just say that girl is your biological daughter."
"Don't worry, I remember everything you taught me," Gina whispered. "But Yolanda, whose family does that girl really belong to? How did she cause such a huge commotion?"
Yolanda's gaze turned frigid. "It doesn't matter who she is. If they find out the truth, Mom, I won't be able to protect you and Dad."
