Rosalind answered without missing a beat, “He’s on a business trip.”
Mrs. Zade chimed in to help. “Megan, I can vouch for that. Rosalind isn't lying. I saw him get into a car myself. And what a car it was! Must have been worth almost a million dollars!”
Rosalind didn’t connect the price tag to the Maybach.
She was currently texting her overly handsome patient.
The message was simple: Need to borrow you for a moment.
My Fragile Beauty: ???
Rosalind: I’ll explain later.
My Fragile Beauty: Okay.
With his permission, Rosalind felt much more at ease.
Mrs. Yates Sr., however, was worried. “He’s that well-off? Rosalind, will you be treated… poorly if you’re with him?”
Rosalind stated firmly, “He listens to me.”
Mrs. Yates Sr. chuckled. “That’s good, that’s good!”
Rosalind was about to breathe a sigh of relief.
But then Mrs. Yates Sr. added, “Something still feels off. How long have you two known each other?”
Rosalind’s expression didn't change. “It was love at first sight for him.”
Mrs. Zade clapped her hands. “That makes sense! With Rosalind’s looks, who wouldn’t fall for her?”
Mrs. Yates Sr. was harder to fool. “But I’ve never seen him come looking for you.”
Rosalind held up her phone. “We mostly talk online.”
Mrs. Zade played along. “I get it, video calls, right? That’s how all the young people date these days!”
Rosalind smiled faintly, thinking, Keep talking, Mrs. Zade, you’re doing great.
Mrs. Yates Sr. pondered for a moment. “Then call him on video right now.”
That was an unexpected move.
Rosalind played for time. “Let me ask if he’s free.”
Mrs. Yates Sr. nodded, her eyes full of anticipation.
Mrs. Zade joined in, watching eagerly.
Rosalind sent a message: Is it convenient to take a video call right now? (smiling emoji)
