Chapter 437 Slap in the Face
The next morning, soft light came through the curtains, but Gwen woke up confused.
The moment her bleary eyes landed on the sleeping form of Mason beside her, memories of the previous night came crashing back.
She was so shocked she couldn't speak.
"Ah!" she yelped in shock.
In a flurry of panicked movements, she tried to scramble out of the bed, but Mason's strong arm shot out and snagged her back with ease.
He pulled her close into his embrace, his lips brushing against her forehead in a firm kiss. "Think you can just bolt after getting into bed with me? Not a chance!"
With a smirk, he then played the video he'd recorded, which was filled with all her drunken ramblings.
Hearing her own slurred bravado, Gwen felt her face flush with embarrassment. She buried her head deep in Mason's chest, not daring to move an inch.
She was merely a 20-year-old college girl. How on earth had she managed to land herself in such a colossal mess?
She kept her eyes tightly shut and stubbornly shifted the blame. "I got drunk last night. I don't remember anything! You must've taken advantage of me when I was out of it and recorded this just to mess with me!"
Mason tossed his phone aside, gently pried her eyes open, and made her look at the scratches on his torso.
Staring at those obvious marks, Gwen felt her heart race.
Did things really get that crazy last night?
Just at that awkward moment, Mason's phone started ringing.
He peeked at the caller ID and then leaned in close to whisper in Gwen's ear, "It's your brother on the line."
"Don't you dare answer!"
Without hesitation, Gwen snatched the phone and hit the end-call button.
The fact that she was still a college student nagged at her.
If Hugh ever found out she'd slept with his friend, it would be pure hell.
Just the week before, her parents had casually asked about her feelings for Mason.
She'd confidently assured them she only saw him as a brother. Holding his hand, she'd said, felt like holding her own, with no romantic feelings.
But here she was, having slept with Mason. It was like a swift, stinging slap in the face.
On the other side of the call, Hugh stared blankly at his phone, clearly caught off guard.
All the years he'd known Mason, that guy had never once dared to hang up on him.
Hugh pondered for a bit and then shot off a text message to Mason.
Just as he was getting up from his seat, Jacob's call came in. "Mr. Cavill, Mr. Field's asking for a private meet-up."
Hugh replied without a second thought, "No dice."

Later that evening, at a posh downtown eatery, Hugh sat there in a quiet corner.
He watched as Mason, looking as sprightly as ever, and his sister, looking as guilty as sin, made their way to the table across from him.
Gwen cleared her throat nervously and spoke up, "Hugh, what's the occasion for this dinner?"
After giving his sister a quick look, his eyes landed on Mason's slightly open collar.
