"Don't worry. I can handle it," Demi said, turning back to Maria with a calm, reassuring smile.
As Demi began walking, her posture and movements immediately caught everyone's attention—they were precise and almost effortless.
"Demi, you've got it down perfectly!" Maria said, her voice full of surprise and delight.
Demi smiled in response but remained silent.
…
Time ticked by, second by second.
Ana was the first to give up. She dropped onto the stone steps, refusing to go any further.
Another half hour passed, and even George, who had been leading confidently, began to falter under the weight. Despite the strain, the four male contestants kept pushing themselves forward.
Demi, on the other hand, was a picture of composure. She hadn't even broken a sweat, her movements as smooth and unhurried as when she'd started.
"I can't do this anymore. I need to rest for a bit. Demi, do you want to take a break too?" Maria asked, her voice strained as she wiped the sweat from her forehead.
Her hand unconsciously moved to rub her lower abdomen.
Demi turned to glance at Maria, then shifted her gaze to Sanders, the cameraman, who was breathing heavily from the effort to keep up with the group.
"Mr. Whitley, am I allowed to help someone else?" Demi asked.
Maria was on her period. As a healer, Demi didn't need to ask to know.
Sanders' expression froze for a moment. "Ms. Demi, you're planning to help someone else?"
Maria immediately caught on to what Demi was suggesting and waved her hands frantically. "No, no, there's no need. I'll rest for a bit and then keep going. If I come in last, then so be it."
Demi, however, kept her focus on Sanders. "Is it allowed?" she asked again.
Sanders hesitated, then quickly contacted Matt for confirmation.
After a brief moment, he turned back to Demi. "Mr. Hahn said it's allowed in principle, but he also advised you not to overdo it, you don't want to hurt yourself."
Demi nodded thoughtfully, then turned to Maria. "Here's the plan. You rest here for now, and I'll take my load to the top first. After that, I'll come back down and help you. Don't worry, I'll be back soon."
Before Maria could protest, Demi was already moving again. This time, her pace quickened noticeably.
