A Second Life, A New Power novel Chapter 43

Demi's words weren't born from mere anger.

At that moment, trapped inside the burning car, engulfed by smoke and searing heat, she had truly wondered, "Did the Pitt family want me dead?"

If they had only forgotten she was in the car, shouldn't they have realized it within three, or five seconds? Or at the very least, after ten?

But no.

Even as she had closed her eyes in despair, she never saw the Pitt family return for her.

Perhaps they had forgotten at first. But when they did remember, were they too terrified of the danger to come back and save her?

After all, in the eyes of the Pitt family, she had never mattered much.

Or maybe, just as they claimed later, she had never crossed their minds in the first place.

And then there was the possibility that haunted her most during those helpless moments—they left her there on purpose.

No matter which possibility it was, the thought was chilling to the core.

The Pitt family members stared at Demi, wide-eyed and stunned.

The next moment, Michelle clutched her chest, her face crumpling in pain. Her voice trembled as she stammered, "Demi, how could you think that about me? I'm your biological mother!"

"Biological mother?" Demi let out a cold laugh, her tone dripping with biting sarcasm. "Then, you've been a fantastic mother! You made your biological daughter work as a housekeeper, serving your entire family, including the fake daughter you've brought home.

"You left your biological daughter locked in a burning car, ready to be burned alive. So, dear Mom, how exactly do you think I should feel about you?"

Michelle's lips moved, but no words came out.

Before anyone else could speak, a voice called out from inside the house.

"Demi, who are you talking to out there?" Margaret's voice broke the tension.

Demi's expression shifted ever so slightly. She realized Margaret had woken up.
