A Second Life, A New Power novel Chapter 42

"Alright," Harold and Thomas agreed without hesitation.

"But what if we apologize, and she still doesn't accept it?" Michelle asked hesitantly.

"Then, you apologize again! If you were locked in a car and almost burned alive, would a simple 'sorry' from the person responsible make you forgive them?" Stephen snapped, his tone cold.

Michelle lowered her head, unable to respond.

These past few days, her emotions had been all over the place.

On one hand, she did feel a flicker of guilt. But on the other hand, she kept telling herself it wasn't intentional.

And Demi had been alive this whole time but hadn't reached out, forcing Michelle to endure endless worry and torment.

The thought left her bitter and resentful, stirring a frustrating mix of guilt and anger.

The next day, Demi woke up early.

After a quick round of boxing exercises, she grabbed a watering can and stepped outside to tend to her plants.

Just as she was watering them, there was a sharp knock at the door.

"Who is it?" Demi called out, setting down the watering can as she walked toward the front door.

When she opened it, all five members of the Pitt family stood there.

Without a word, Demi slammed the door in their faces. Then, she turned the lock, the click sounding sharp and decisive.

Outside the door, Stephen had just lifted his foot to step forward when the door slammed shut, narrowly missing his nose.

He froze, momentarily stunned.

As the head of a wealthy family, Stephen wasn't used to being treated this way.

He took a deep breath and reminded himself that they were in the wrong.

"Demi, open the door so we can talk. I know what happened was their fault, and I've already scolded them on your behalf," Stephen said, keeping his tone steady as he knocked.

Inside, Demi had been ready to walk away, but something made her reconsider.

Letting the Pitt family stand outside her door, talking loudly for all the neighbors to hear, didn't seem like a good idea. If word got back to Margaret, it would only make things worse.

After a moment's hesitation, she turned around and opened the door.
