Demi paused for a moment. Then, she broke into a smile that was half amused and half furious. She knew Ana had caught the "loophole" in her story—one that only a seasoned mystic like herself could deduce.

When Demi had glanced at the necklace hanging around Ana's neck that day, she'd pieced together what had really happened. Still, she couldn't bring herself to explain it to everyone.

"Ana, stop playing innocent in front of me! Whether you did it or not, everyone knows the truth." Demi sneered.

"I swear I didn't do anything!" Ana protested, her voice trembling between indignation and resolve.

Demi's tone hardened as she continued, "Fine! It seems you think I can't prove my case, so today, you're going to have to take the silent fall. But you're wrong. I'm not the same timid Demi who used to let you walk all over me!"

"Please, Demi, stop twisting the truth. For heaven's sake, when have I ever wronged you?" Ana pleaded, shaking her head furiously as sparkling tears began to fall.
