"As the heiress of the Pitt family, you get over ten thousand dollars a month and have an entire cabinet full of jewelry at home. You wouldn't give a second thought to my plain old protective charm, would you?
"But listen, Ana—this isn't just any trinket. My grandma got that quartz token from a church and gave it to me. It's the most precious thing I have, and I wouldn't let anyone else even touch it. Yet you asked for it, and I had no choice but to give it to you.
"I thought you'd just take a quick peek and return it, but you ended up wearing it around your neck! I assumed you'd only wear it for a few minutes before giving it back, but you acted like you completely forgot about it.
"I know what you're doing, Ana. You're deliberately making things difficult for me. You act so high and mighty—like you secretly enjoy seeing me lose my head, wanting it back but too scared to say anything. I saw it all, clear as day."
"I didn't!" Ana protested, her voice trembling with indignation.
Demi's tone turned icy. "Then, later, after the accident…" she began.
But just then, Alex shouted, "Demi, that's enough!"
Both Alex and Ana turned pale at her words.
"Don't worry," Demi continued with a wry smile as she fixed her glare on Alex. "Today, I'm only going to talk about the necklace."
The atmosphere in the room grew thick with tension and unspoken history. Demi then fixed her eyes on the visibly shaken Ana and said, "When I was fighting for my life, Ana, you threw my protective charm into the trash.
"Not just any trash, mind you—the bathroom trash can! So, tell me, was it your way of making sure I'd never get it back?"
At that, everyone turned toward Ana in disbelief—Alex and even Thomas looked on, their faces etched with shock.
"I didn't do that!" Ana cried out again, her voice echoing her deep hurt and frustration.
Demi's voice dropped to a cold whisper, "It wasn't just any garbage can. It was the one in the bathroom. Now you know why I was so furious that day."
