Meanwhile, Maria got closer to Demi and asked softly, "Are you free tomorrow night? Do you have any plans?"
"I'll probably be available," Demi answered. "What's up?"
"We're planning a gathering tomorrow. You should join us." Maria tried to act as normal as possible.
"Sure." Demi agreed casually with a nod and didn't think too much about it. That was because she was focusing on the mathematics book she had.
…
When the class ended in the evening, Maria and the others met up to go shopping together. They were going to buy Demi's gift. Although they already discussed what to get in the group chat, they still talked about it excitedly to see if they could have any better ideas.
They also chatted about where they were going to celebrate Demi's birthday.
…
Right after Demi grabbed a seat the next day, Maria placed an exquisite-looking gift box in front of Demi. The gift box was as big as two shoeboxes and almost blocked Demi's view entirely.
"What's this?" Feeling puzzled, she looked at Maria.
"Your birthday gift, of course!" Maria looked back at her with a confused look, thinking it was pretty obvious.
Demi stared at Maria speechlessly. Although she didn't celebrate her birthday on that date, she was still grateful and happy about the gift.
"Thank you. May I open it now?" she asked while touching the gift.
"Of course." Maria nodded with a smile. Then, Demi started opening her gift.
Chad saw what was going on and looked confused. Then, he sent Maria a message in the group chat. "Maria, why are you giving Demi her gift now?"
Maria glanced at the message and casually replied, "I know what you're worrying about! Don't worry. Everyone knows how close we are, so no one will dare to have any problems with it!"
