A Second Life, A New Power novel Chapter 200

Robert plopped down beside Thomas, curiosity written all over his face.

"Thomas, what do you want me to do? Just tell me already."

Thomas hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to go with his own plan. He pulled Robert closer, making sure Robert was seated before speaking in a serious tone.

"Robert, can you try getting closer to Demi at school?"

"Huh? Why?" Robert raised a brow, confused.

"Because… Because we did some things that hurt her. We're hoping she'll forgive us and come back." Thomas' voice wavered, hesitant.

Robert frowned as he questioned, "What did you do? I live in the same house as you guys, and I've never seen you do anything to hurt Demi."

"Just don't ask, okay? All you have to do is focus on getting closer to her." Thomas' brows knitted together in frustration.

"If you don't tell me the truth, I'm not doing it." Robert huffed and tilted his chin up smugly, refusing outright.

Thomas was speechless.

"Do you think I don't want to tell you?" He let out a frustrated sigh. "If I spill everything, the whole family will probably kill me!"

Robert scoffed, crossing his arms. "Oh, so I'm an outsider now? Am I some kind of enemy?"

His voice dripped with sarcasm as he glared at Thomas. He continued, "All of you know what's going on, but I'm the only one left in the dark. And you still have the nerve to ask me for help? Yeah, no thanks!"

With that, he stormed out of the room.

At first, Robert was heading straight for his own room. But after a brief hesitation, he turned around and carefully made his way downstairs, keeping his movements quiet as he hid near the corner of the staircase.

His ears perked up as he eavesdropped on the conversation happening in the dining room below.

...

"Mom, I think Thomas' idea is great," Alex said, his voice calm but firm.

"Right now, the only person in our family who might actually get through to Demi is Robert. If anyone has a shot at getting her to talk, it's him."
