Demi stood by her desk and scanned the room. "Who did this?" she demanded, her voice low but firm.
A few students glanced at her with varying expressions before returning to their business, while others stole secret looks. Demi's eyes narrowed as if she were spreading a net across the room.
"Who did this?" she repeated, louder this time.
"We did it. So what?" In unison, three girls and two boys turned around, trying to appear nonchalant. For a split second, their faces betrayed a flash of regret for speaking up—but they would never know it was Demi's sharp perception that had forced their reaction.
With a slight, disarming smile, she swept her gaze over the five of them and strode purposefully toward the two girls at the front. Before they could react, she grabbed them by the collars and dragged them toward the back of the classroom.
"What's your problem?" Valerie Tyson protested as Demi grabbed her by the collar. "Demi, what are you doing? Are you planning on picking a fight?"
"Aren't you the ones looking for trouble?" Demi shot back coolly.
She recognized Valerie. Valerie was the one who, during breakfast, had hinted that she was cozying up to some influential guy.
Before Valerie could answer, her friend, Iris Milton, chimed in, "Demi, let go of me! Do you even know who my dad is?"
Demi's reply was clipped. She said, "I'm not interested in that."
At that moment, Willow Surrey lunged forward, tugging at Demi's clothes. "Come on, Demi! Let them go! You're supposed to be a housekeeper. How dare you act like this?"
Without a moment's hesitation, Demi pivoted and kicked Willow squarely in the knee. Willow cried out in pain and collapsed to her knees as the room fell into stunned silence.
In front of everyone's eyes, Demi marched the two girls to the back of the classroom. With a swift, forceful motion, she shoved their heads straight into a trash can.
There was no denying it. Big cities had a lot of advancements, even when it came to trash cans.
At Moran Academy, the garbage bins were far more modern than the ones in Lindton. There were four separate bins—recyclables, hazardous waste, food waste, and general waste.
Demi shoved the two girls straight into the food waste and general waste bins.
The food waste bin contained fruit peels, tea leaves, and leftover food scraps. The general waste bin had used takeout boxes, tissues full of snot, and layers of dust.
In short, it was disgusting.
Valerie and Iris struggled and whimpered, but Demi held them down effortlessly.
From a few feet away, Willow, still rubbing her bruised knee, glared at her with rage. She barked, "Demi, there were two guys involved too! You just don't have the guts to go after them, so you're picking on girls instead, huh?"
