The feedback from Felix's personal assistant was fast.
Felix had a company named Harrington Group under his name. Several subsidiaries had various levels of collaboration with Pitt Group.
"Tell them to stop all collaborations with Pitt Group! This is an order!" Felix ordered coldly.
His personal assistant wanted to point out that they would also have a financial loss for their company if they were to do so. However, he remained silent in the end after opening his mouth. After all, there was never room to be questioned when it came to Felix's orders.
…
The execution of Harrington Group's decisions was fast.
Just one and a half hours after Felix gave his order, the Pitt Group started to receive termination notices from a few of Harrington Group's subsidiaries.
The news quickly spread to Stephen. Shocked, he immediately called Daniel to discuss it.
"What happened? Why did Harrington Group suddenly cut off all collaborations with us? Did you offend someone over there?" Stephen had a deep frown on his face.
"No, I didn't do anything. Our collaborations have always been going smoothly." Daniel felt wrongly accused. He also couldn't understand the situation.
"If that's so, then did any of your subordinates offend them? Hold a meeting right now. We need to question every single one of them and find out who caused this. And then, we have to make that person apologize for it!
"Harrington Group alone may not be a huge threat, but I heard its owner has a powerful background. That's why they could grow so well in Lynora City," Stephen said in a grave tone.
"I understand." Daniel nodded and left hurriedly.
…
At the same time, Michelle, Harold, Thomas, and Ana were summoned to the police station. Michelle was the first one to be questioned by Zack and Henry.
"Mrs. Pitt, what's your relationship with Ms. Demi Moone?" Zack looked straight into Michelle's eyes when asking this question.
"Didn't I tell you guys already? She's our housekeeper! How many times do you want me to repeat this?" Michelle's tone was frustrated, and her voice was raised.
"But, according to our investigation, she's your biological daughter with Mr. Stephen Pitt," Zack replied flatly, keeping his gaze locked on Michelle.
Michelle's expression immediately turned panicked. She wanted to ask how they knew about this. However, she quickly realized that there was nothing that the police could not find out if they intended to investigate something.
"Ms. Michelle Leary, please answer our questions honestly. You'll be held legally responsible if you make any false statements!" Zack's voice became cold.
Michelle's face went pale. She felt a chill run down her spine as she clenched her fists. She wasn't afraid to be held legally responsible. She was afraid that the truth would be exposed to the public.
"Ms. Leary, I'll ask you one more time. What's your relationship with Ms. Moone?" Zack's face held a serious expression.
"She…" Michelle's lips were dry. She couldn't help but lick her dry lips. "She's indeed my biological daughter with my husband."
"Then, why did you lie about it earlier?" Zack frowned. His voice had a bit of anger in it.
"Because outsiders shouldn't know about this for now." Michelle had a bitter expression.
"Elaborate." Zack remained indifferent.
"Our daughter was switched after she was born," Michelle began. "When we brought Demi back, our adopted daughter, Ana, had a huge reaction. She either kept crying or trying to commit suicide, so we thought it's best to keep it a secret for the time being."
"So, you guys just let your biological daughter become your housekeeper?" Henry asked this with a frown on his face. He looked at Michelle as if she were some kind of freak.
"N-No… It was… It was just pretending… It wasn't real," Michelle stammered.
"Ms. Moone said differently. According to her, you guys really treated her as a housekeeper," Zack said with a frown.
"You guys met her?" Michelle was surprised.
"She's the victim in this case. Since she's still alive, it's normal for us to talk to her. But that's not your concern. Just answer our questions." Zack's voice was cold.
"I…" Michelle ran through the police officers' questions in her mind. "We didn't make her the housekeeper. She insisted on doing it herself. She was at a loss if we didn't allow her, so we just let her be."
"Isn't this her way to prove herself and try to feel like she belongs in your home when you guys refused to accept her?" Henry replied coldly.
"Ms. Moone mentioned that you and your adopted daughter, Ms. Pitt, often made her clean the house and do the laundry. You also made her hand wash both your own lingerie and your daughter's. Your sons also frequently ordered her to make them late-night snacks and wash their shoes," Zack added seriously.
Michelle was trying to find her words.
"We just saw that she likes to do the chores, so… so…" Michelle trailed off, unable to continue.
"How do you see your daughter, Demi Moone? How was your relationship with her? Were there any major conflicts between you and her?" Zack continued to ask.
"She's my biological daughter. Of course, I love her," Michelle replied.
"You let her become your housekeeper as a way of loving her?" Henry couldn't help but laugh. It was obvious that his laughter was filled with sarcasm and anger.
"As I've told you before, we were just pretending!" Michelle raised her voice in frustration.
"Were there any conflicts?" Zack asked with a neutral expression.
"There wasn't any! Even if there was, it was just some minor things!" Michelle replied.
