Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 85

"Silvia! You did this on purpose, didn’t you?!"

It took Shipley barely ten seconds to confirm the project was in Kent’s hands. The gentle expression he usually wore twisted, something harsh and ugly creeping across his features.

He sucked in a breath, jaw clenched, his voice icy cold. "I always wondered why we kept losing bids to Kent. Was it you? Have you been leaking company secrets to him behind my back?"

Silvia leaned against Kent’s chest, his arms wrapped protectively around her. Shipley’s accusation made her eyes tremble ever so slightly.

Her love had always been earnest, stubborn, and real. She never expected, in Shipley’s eyes, that everything she’d ever done would look like betrayal.

But now, she no longer felt sad for Shipley. She just felt that all her devotion had been wasted.

With her cheek pressed to Kent’s chest, she could hear the steady, reassuring beat of his heart. Each thump calmed the storm inside her just a little more.

Kent kept an arm around Silvia, glancing down at his watch. His eyes grew colder. "You have ten seconds to get out."

"Kent, do you really think you can just control everything? You think you can have any project you want, just like that?"

Bzzz.

Suddenly, Shipley’s phone vibrated. He pulled it out, eyes narrowing when he saw who was calling—his assistant. He felt a jolt of unease.

He answered. On the other end, his assistant’s voice was strained with panic. "Mr. Barlow, we have a problem. The Upton Group—the project they promised us... they’re pulling out."

Shipley ended the call abruptly.

He looked up, his eyes bloodshot, and let out a hoarse laugh as he stared at Kent and Silvia. "Sweet Silvia, come with me. The Upton Group was your deal. See? If you don’t come back, they—"

Before he could finish, his phone rang again.

This time, it was about another client breaking their contract.
