Vianne ran out of the Ashford estate in tears, her retreating figure looking heartbreakingly small and vulnerable.
Even the butler, seeing her like that, couldn’t help but glance toward the door a couple more times.
Thankfully, there weren’t any reporters crowding outside today like before, which allowed everyone in the house to breathe a little easier.
“What do you all think?” Silvia turned to her family, her tone cautious.
“Don’t bother with her.”
Garth’s response was cold, unmoved by Vianne’s tears from moments before.
But when he looked at Silvia, his expression softened a little, a trace of concern flickering in his eyes.
“Silvia, whatever’s going on at home, we can handle it. You don’t need to worry.”
With Silvia having just started her own business and recently gotten married, her parents didn’t want to burden her with family drama.
But the more they tried to shield her, the more determined Silvia became to help.
Suddenly, Lola seemed to notice something. She tugged Silvia aside, her eyes sharp with curiosity. “Silvia, tell me—why did you bring up your grandmother just now?”
Since Wilhelmina’s passing, the Ashfords rarely mentioned her except on special occasions. For Silvia to suddenly mention her in front of Vianne was odd, and Lola couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
Silvia met her mother’s gaze. Whatever she’d been planning to say, she swallowed it back down. There was already enough to deal with at home; questions about her grandmother’s death could wait until she had more answers.
With that in mind, Silvia managed a small smile. “Mom, I just thought of her, that’s all. I was just asking Vianne—no other reason.”
“Really?”
