Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 26

Silvia’s fingers tightened ever so slightly around her phone.

After a moment, she finally replied in a soft voice, “There’s no need. When I’m back in Capital City, we’ll naturally see each other. There’s no rush.”

After that, not a single call came her way—not even from Shipley.

On the third day, it was Shipley who received a call from the branch office instead.

“Mr. Barlow, Miss Ashford still hasn’t shown up for work as of today. Is she coming in at all?”

The call was from the branch’s HR manager.

She had moved out several days ago, and with this many days of unexplained absence, it was obvious she was in the middle of a sulk.

Her unexcused absence irritated him.

But lately, Shipley barely had a moment to breathe. An industry heavyweight was putting pressure on him, so he’d been running himself ragged—endless meetings, late-night dinners, pulling every string he could find just to stay afloat. There simply wasn’t time to worry about Silvia.

Just then, a knock sounded at the door.

A moment later, Vianne’s gentle, smiling face appeared in the doorway.

“Mr. Barlow?”

The HR manager’s voice echoed from the phone. “Mr. Barlow?”

Shipley pulled his gaze away and answered coolly, “Forget about her. Mark her as absent without leave and dock her pay as usual.”

“Understood.”

He ended the call and tossed his phone onto the desk.

Noticing the irritation on his face, Vianne asked curiously, “What’s wrong, Shipley?”
