Suddenly, a sharp knock echoed through the room.
Shipley’s eyes flicked to the door.
Vianne strolled over at a leisurely pace, but as she reached his side, she collapsed into his arms. “Shipley, I think I’ve sprained my back. It hurts so much…”
Shipley’s hand instinctively went to her waist, concern lacing his voice. “Is it serious?”
Vianne’s gaze drifted over his shoulder toward the desk.
Two envelopes sat atop it, and the bold letters spelling “Resignation Letter” seemed to leap out at her.
“It really hurts,” she replied, her voice deliberately soft and frail. “I think I need to see a doctor.”
“Alright, I’ll take you to the hospital first,” Shipley said, his worry clear.
A sly, almost mocking smile tugged at the corner of Vianne’s lips. As they left, her eyes lingered on the envelopes, refusing to look away.
Word had already spread that Silvia was gone.
If she guessed right, that had to be Silvia’s letter for Shipley.
But by now, Silvia had already arrived at the apartment Mr. Knox had arranged for her.
Azure Crown Estates.
It was one of Luminova City’s more upscale neighborhoods—the kind of bustling, vibrant area she’d always admired. Even the decor inside matched the photos perfectly, just her taste.
She’d be living here for the next twenty-six days.
A few weeks wasn’t a long time, but alone, it stretched out before her like an eternity.
By the time Silvia finished unpacking, evening was already drawing in.
The past few days had been a whirlwind of frustration and upset. She had no appetite for much of anything—except maybe instant noodles, a little comfort food from her childhood.
She grabbed her keys and headed downstairs. On her way back up, instant noodles in hand, she ran right into a familiar figure in the hallway.
Kent.
What were the odds? He lived here too?
