Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 19

The man shot her a cool glance, then turned and walked out of the treatment room.

Silvia watched his retreating figure, feeling her heart sink lower than ever.

She never would have guessed that, in her darkest hour, it would be Shipley’s sworn rival who kept coming to her rescue.

Meanwhile, the person she once thought closest to her seemed convinced she was just being dramatic.

By the time her IV was finished, it was nearly eleven at night.

With only a handful of bills left in her wallet, Silvia scraped together enough for a cab ride home.

She’d barely stepped through the front door when she spotted Vianne wandering near the backyard pool.

Vianne had clearly been drinking—her cheeks were flushed a deep red.

Silvia lowered her gaze and tried to slip past her in silence.

But Vianne let out a soft, tipsy laugh. “Silvia, you’re home awfully late tonight.”

Silvia frowned, glancing back at her in confusion.

Vianne caught her hand, her gaze drifting over Silvia’s shoulder as she leaned in and whispered, “Tell me, who do you think Shipley will believe?”

The cold pressure of Vianne’s fingers on her wrist made Silvia uneasy, and the lingering pain in her stomach left her too weak to pull away forcefully.

She managed to shake Vianne’s hand off with a feeble motion. “What’s that supposed to mean?”

Suddenly, Vianne let herself fall backward, as if prompted by Silvia’s movement.

There was a sharp splash as she tumbled into the pool, sending water spraying everywhere.

Silvia froze in shock. Then, from behind her, she heard the sound of hurried footsteps.

Whipping around, she saw Shipley striding toward them, his face drawn with worry as he dove straight into the water.

He barreled past Silvia, knocking her off-balance. She stumbled, barely catching herself before she fell.
