Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 183

Silvia stirred as the faint sound of the hospital room door opening broke through her drowsiness. The dim glow from the corridor crept in, brushing against her closed eyelids. She blinked herself halfway awake, her vision still hazy.

Through the blur, she saw a tall figure slip silently into the room.

She let her eyes fall shut again, feigning sleep, hoping to appear oblivious.

Kent, unaware that Silvia had woken, moved quietly, closing the door behind him with barely a sound. The muted light in the room cast soft shadows as he sat at the edge of her bed.

He gazed at her, his features softened by an unguarded warmth.

A stray lock of hair lay across her cheek. Kent pressed his lips together, then carefully reached out, brushing the hair away with gentle fingers.

Watching her sleep so peacefully, something flickered in his eyes—a mix of tenderness and something more complicated.

Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed through his stomach. He stifled a groan, trying not to disturb Silvia, then quietly rose and slipped back out of the room.

Click.

The door closed again. Silvia couldn’t help glancing toward it, but from her angle, all she could see was a sliver of light beneath the door.

Is he still feeling unwell?

Her gaze grew thoughtful, and whatever traces of sleepiness she’d felt were gone.

She reached for her phone on the bedside table. The screen glowed: 5:00 AM. Her eyelid twitched; it was still so early.

After a moment’s hesitation, Silvia sat up and pulled on her jacket, stepping into the quiet hallway.
