Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 182

He pulled open the car door and rephrased his offer, “But if you really want to go, then go ahead.”

Silvia hadn’t expected the detective’s attitude to shift so quickly. Was it really just one phone call that changed everything?

She shot a suspicious glance at Kent, but he simply gave a quiet laugh and ushered her into the car.

By the time they arrived at the police station, gave their statements, and walked back out, two hours had passed. Silvia noticed Kent glued to his phone, his brow furrowed with worry. She pressed her lips together, hesitated, then asked, “Are you worried about Nannie?”

Kent didn’t bother to hide it. He nodded, then added, “As long as she’s alive, everything else can be worked out.”

If she survived, it didn’t matter what happened from here. That was Kent’s approach to Nannie.

But Silvia misunderstood. She thought he meant that once Nannie recovered, she wouldn’t come after her for what happened.

Her heart, which had finally calmed, grew heavy again, as if a dark cloud had settled over her chest.

She forced a small smile, determined not to show any cracks in front of Kent. Her tone was light, casual. “Mr. Parsons, if you’re that worried about her, you should go to the hospital. I’ll just head home.”

It was well past midnight now—there was no way Kent would let her go home alone. He took her hand without a word and practically led her straight back to the hospital.

Inside, he brought her to his own room, pointed at the bed, and said in a calm voice, “Get some sleep.”

“That’s not necessary. You’re the one who’s sick,” Silvia protested, glancing at the time, her tone a little helpless. “Mr. Parsons, I can just call a cab. I’ll get home safe, don’t worry.”

“Stay. Sleep.”
