Year Five: The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 16

Silvia’s steps faltered of their own accord.

After all these years together, Shipley had only dried her hair for her twice.

One of those times, she’d practically begged him for ages before he’d agreed—he was a bit of a neat freak, and hardly ever did that sort of thing for anyone.

“Sure! Take a seat,” he said.

“Thank you, Shipley, you’re so sweet!” Vianne’s soft, delicate voice drifted through the air.

Silvia’s eyelashes fluttered, almost imperceptibly.

Her skin, already pale as porcelain, seemed even more bloodless now.

She never expected him to agree so quickly, without the slightest hint of hesitation.

A bitter smile touched her lips.

She didn’t go downstairs. Instead, she turned back to her room, but she could still hear the whir of the hair dryer.

Even with a long hallway and two closed doors between them, the sound reached her—faint, but distinct.

Silvia couldn’t remember when she finally drifted off to sleep. All she knew was that, when she woke the next morning, both Vianne and Shipley were gone.

Another day closer to leaving Luminova City.

Yet, somehow, the hollow ache in her chest was a little less sharp than before.

She washed up quickly and rushed off to work.

She had barely settled at her desk when she saw Vianne and Shipley walking side by side toward the conference room.

Arriving at the office together, heading into meetings together.

Vianne hadn’t just taken her spot at work—she’d taken the seat beside Shipley, too.

So be it.

She was getting married soon, after all.
