Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 111

Knock, knock.

Someone rapped on the office door. Shipley’s hand froze, and he quickly flipped the photo frame face-down, just as he always did—never allowing anyone to see the person in the picture.

His fingertips drummed on the desk, slow and deliberate. He lowered his gaze, voice calm but distant. “Come in.”

The door swung open and Vianne stepped inside, dressed in a sleek black suit. Her hands were tucked behind her back, head tilted playfully, eyes sparkling with mischief as she stared at Shipley.

Her voice was sweet, almost teasing. “Shipley, do you know what day it is today?”

Shipley lifted his eyes, soft and warm as he looked at her. A faint smile played at his lips. “And what day is that?”

Vianne closed the door behind her. She watched him sitting there, regal in his leather chair, and sauntered over, her lips curved in a knowing smile.

A strong floral perfume trailed after her.

Shipley caught the scent and his brows creased—just for a moment—before smoothing out again.

Back when Vianne was gone, he always thought Silvia’s faint fragrance was too subtle. But now, with Vianne so close and her perfume so overpowering, he found himself missing Silvia’s gentle scent.

Clang!

As he lost himself in thought, Vianne suddenly whisked a bouquet of vivid red roses from behind her back and presented it to him.

The sight of the lush roses made Shipley sneeze violently. Without thinking, he pushed the bouquet aside.

Vianne’s expression flickered, her eyes shining with hurt and confusion.

Had she gotten it wrong?

Today was the anniversary of the day they first met as children.
