Who’s the Dog Now? novel Chapter 3

Perhaps it was because of Christmas, or maybe the weather, but the normally busy streets were nearly empty.

She and Lennon walked under a single black umbrella, the rain and snow pattering against it before splashing onto the pavement, making the world around them feel even quieter.-

Naomi belatedly realized how close they were, so close that she could smell the crisp, cool scent coming from him, like a winter wind.

Feeling a little uncomfortable, she subtly shifted away.

Lennon’s gaze dropped to the top of her head. Sensing her movement, his eyes darkened, but other than tilting the umbrella slightly in her direction, he said nothing.

They walked past the no-parking zone and onto Grandview Road. Naomi had just managed to book a car on her phone, and it was now waiting by the wet curb, its hazard lights blinking.

As Naomi approached, Lennon opened the rear door for her. Once inside, she didn't immediately close it. After a moment’s thought, she spoke to the man standing outside. “Lennon, thank you for tonight.”

“Mm.”

Lennon nodded, his expression unreadable. Naomi glanced at him, opening her mouth as if to say more, but ultimately decided against it, closing the door and telling the driver to go.

“You got it, miss. Buckle up, the roads are slick.”

“Okay.”

Naomi replied. In the rearview mirror, she saw Lennon standing on the curb, holding the large umbrella as rain and snow fell behind him, his figure growing smaller and smaller in the distance.

She thought to herself that Lennon didn't seem to be the person Zebulon had described.

Zebulon had always told her to avoid Lennon at all costs, or to call him so he could tell Lennon to get lost.

Looking back now, it was Zebulon who should get lost.

Lennon seemed… surprisingly kind?

Actually, this wasn’t the first time Naomi had seen Lennon show… kindness?
