Ronald is just a little kid, after all.
Making him learn all that stuff at such a young age is already too much. Now they're not even looking out for his mental well-being, just letting him get bullied at school. It's only going to make him hate it more, and he's bound to snap sooner or later.
“It's not our place to say anything.”
Lennon's voice was calm.
But there was something hidden beneath the surface.
Naomi guessed Lennon must have tried to speak up for Ronald before, but given his relationship with the Spencers, they probably just mocked him for it.
An illegitimate son trying to meddle in the Spencer family's affairs? They would've seen it as him getting way ahead of himself.
Naomi had already suspected that Lennon didn't have it easy with the Spencers, but hearing him say it out loud made her heart ache for him.
She clenched her fists, feeling an unprecedented disgust for the world of the ultra-rich.
“You...” Naomi started to say something, but the words died on her lips. She realized there was nothing she could really say.
How could she comfort him? She couldn't. Even though she had her own frustrations, at least she came from a well-off family, where she was the only child.
Anything she said now would probably sound like hollow platitudes from someone who couldn't possibly understand, right?
With that in mind, Naomi decided to change the subject. “Well, in that case, why don't we help Ron?”
Lennon turned to look at her, a hint of surprise in his eyes.
“How do you plan on doing that?”
Without even thinking, Naomi blurted out, “Maybe we could pretend to be his parents...”
Naomi might look a little young, but Lennon was definitely old enough to pass as Ronald's 'dad'.
“We just need to show up at his class. Once his classmates see that Ron's parents can pick him up too, they won't dare to mess with him anymore.”
At first glance, it seemed like a solid plan.
But... Lennon's gaze landed on Naomi, full of meaning. “Are you sure you want us to pretend to be a married couple?”
Huh?
