The plan was a game changer, no doubt about it. But if Nelly went through with it, Never would end up as the least profitable business in the Watson family.
“I’m on board,” Brody said, not missing a beat. “It’s a great idea and we can get moving right away. Country C is all over the news right now, what with all the disease outbreaks and disasters. One of my partner companies is based there. We could go together, as a married couple, and deliver the supplies ourselves.”
Nelly’s eyes sparkled. “That could actually work.”
It had just been an idea in her head, but with one sentence, Brody had turned it into something real.
Nicholas chimed in, “It’s a solid plan, and I’m all for it. I’ll back you completely. My only concern is the amount of money we’ll need for something this big…”
“No need to worry,” Brody cut in, not even pausing to think. “All the funds from Garland Inc. are at Never’s disposal.”
Nicholas’s eyes flicked to Nelly, and for a moment, the two shared a look. Suddenly, it all clicked for Nelly. Nicholas hadn’t brought Brody into this by accident. He’d done it on purpose. By showing just how much he and the Watson family supported her, he was pushing Brody to show that same level of commitment.
Nicholas really was a top-notch businessman. He could see every angle, spot every opportunity, and never missed a chance to use what was available.

That night, after Nelly and Brody left, Nicholas called Victoria in to see him alone.
Victoria looked nervous, standing as far away from him as she could, head bowed so low she barely seemed to breathe.
“What were you trying to do at dinner tonight?” Nicholas finally asked. His voice was cold, deep, and sharp enough to make Victoria’s heart skip a beat.
“What could I possibly do?” Victoria shot back, her tone defensive, maybe even a little desperate. “I did everything you asked. Haven’t I suffered enough? When are you going to find a match for my son, Nicholas? Or are you planning to break your promise?”
“I’ll do everything I can for your son, but some things are out of my hands. If a mother does too much wrong, sometimes fate steps in with its own punishment.”
