Brody tensed as soon as Nicholas spoke. He stood up, his whole demeanor shifting.
Nicholas shook his head, then finally laid out the truth about Sheila pretending to be April’s savior.
“So that’s what really happened?” Nelly’s eyes widened. She’d always known Sheila could be sneaky, but she hadn’t realized just how gutsy she was. Nicholas had been caught off guard too. He never thought anyone would have the nerve to lie to him, so he hadn’t bothered digging deeper. To repay Sheila for saving April, and thinking she was close to Brody, Nicholas had even tried to help Britney. But now, it turned out all his efforts had been for someone who’d tricked them from the start.
The whole thing left Nelly at a loss for words. Nicholas reached over and squeezed her hand, his voice steady. “Nelly, I made a mistake before. Don’t worry about Sheila. I will handle everything.”
Nelly glanced over at Brody. He looked like he wanted to say something but stopped himself. If Nicholas decided to take action, Sheila’s days in Westhaven were about to get tough. But honestly, after everything Sheila had pulled, Nelly didn’t feel an ounce of sympathy.
After dinner, Carrie tugged April away to play, insisting Nelly and Brody hang back a little longer. Nicholas used the opportunity to invite both of them to his study.
Nicholas wasn’t one for big speeches. He preferred to show his appreciation with real actions. During dinner, he’d already arranged for some documents to be delivered, and now the table was covered with contracts.
He laid everything out for Nelly: all his shares in Watson Corporation, plus control of the major companies he held. He wasn’t holding back. Not only was he giving Nelly his own thirty percent stake in the Watson family business, but he’d also gathered up assets from the shareholders who backed him.
It was a massive gift. If Nelly signed those contracts, she’d become the largest shareholder in the Watson family by far. More than that, she’d have the support of seventy percent of the stakeholders.
“All that’s left is the Global Brand Conference,” Nicholas said, handing her a pen. “Once that’s done, you’ll officially be the heiress.”
