When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 409

“Everyone knows Nelly is set to inherit billions from the Watson family…”

Britney caught on quick. With just a few words, she had everyone on edge again.

Brody was a businessman, and even Garland Inc. couldn’t hold a candle to the Watson family. If anything, he was the one trying to cozy up to power. And with Nelly’s potential inheritance, half of Garland Inc. suddenly seemed insignificant.

Michael stayed quiet, clearly on the same page as Britney.

Brody didn’t flinch. “If Nelly agrees, I’ll sign an agreement right now. Anything from the Watson family will belong to her and her alone. I won’t take a single cent.”

He had clearly come prepared, almost as if he’d been waiting for Britney to bring it up. His words caught everyone off guard, even Nelly. She found herself looking at him differently.

If she was honest, she’d assumed Brody was after the Watson family’s money as well. She just couldn’t see any other reason for him to go this far. Even though he’d just put on a convincing act, and for a second, she’d almost believed him.

The room buzzed with nervous whispers. Britney grew desperate. “Mr. Garland, are you serious? If you two ever divorce, you’ll walk away with nothing!”

Brody just gave a small smile. “Love and money don’t mix. The second you start talking about money, the love changes. Don’t you think so?”

He was playing the lovesick fool, and he was doing a pretty decent job of it.

Michael still looked suspicious, but this was the kind of deal you’d have to be crazy to turn down.

“Mr. Garland, are you really sure about this?”
