“Anything you need me to do?” Nancy asked.
Nelly shook her head, her tone calm. “Let’s wait for now. They’re done for this time. Even if I let it go, Michael and Felix won’t. But besides Britney, I think the person who leaked the story is someone we know too…”
“I remember the woman in the story was named Olson. Isn’t she Brody’s…”
“First love,” Nelly finished for her, not missing a beat.
Nancy hesitated, feeling awkward, but when she saw that Nelly didn’t seem bothered at all, she relaxed and went on. “Looks like Brody really knows how to play both sides. The moment he found out who you are, he dropped his old flame right away. But are you actually thinking about forgiving him? Getting back together?”
“No way,” Nelly replied instantly, her answer short and firm.
Hearing that, Nancy finally let out a breath she’d been holding. A man changing his mind was about as trustworthy as crocodile tears. She’d been worried Nelly might get swept up in the moment and do something reckless.
“So, what’s your next move?”
“If he wants to benefit from Watson Corporation, he’s going to have to pay for it,” Nelly said, her eyes meeting Nancy’s. They shared a knowing smile.
Brody had handed Garland Inc. over on a silver platter. Of course she was going to take it. And she wasn’t about to let go of old grudges, either. This time, she wouldn’t just deal with the people from the Watson family who tried to hurt them. She wasn’t letting Sheila off easy, either.
Just before Nancy left, she remembered Jonah.
She hesitated a moment, then said, “Given how things are, we still need Felix on our side. As for Jonah… you don’t need to keep your distance from him just because of me…”
“I’m not avoiding him for you,” Nelly said as she stood up. “I just haven’t figured out how to tell you everything.”
She pulled out her phone and played a recording for Nancy. It was a conversation between her and Teddy.
