When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 420

Nelly looked him straight in the eye, her stare icy and impossible to ignore. Carrie glanced nervously between her mom and Brody, her little face growing even paler.

Brody only paused for a moment before answering the call. “Yeah?”

On the other end, Sheila sounded weak, her voice trembling with hurt. “Brody, I want to see you. There’s something really important I need to say.”

“I have something to say too, but let’s just do it over the phone,” he replied, his eyes on Nelly, voice steady and cold. “Let’s not contact each other anymore.”

“Brody… what is that supposed to mean?” Sheila’s voice rose, practically bursting through the phone.

Nelly watched with a small, curious smile. Even if Brody was just putting on a show for her, his performance was flawless. Not a flicker of hesitation or discomfort crossed his face. He was calm, almost detached, as if he was just stating a fact.

“I owed you because of what happened with the professor. I’ve tried to make it up to you, but some things can’t be fixed. And the way you treated Carrie and Nelly is too much. If you still want to stick around Westhaven, you’d better think twice about your actions.”

Brody’s words were clean and final. Before Nelly could even react, he hung up.

Sheila tried to call back, of course. But this time, Brody blocked her number right in front of Nelly. No hesitation, no second thoughts.

Once he was done, he turned to Nelly and Carrie, who were both still a little stunned. “Let’s go.”

Carrie quickly slipped her hand around Nelly’s arm, looking extra sweet, almost as if she was afraid Nelly might be upset.
