When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 358

It’s a limited-edition Rolex.

It finally clicked for Nelly. Brody must have left his phone at home. But honestly, did he really have to go this far to look good? Nelly almost let out a laugh, but before she could say a word, the vendor beat her to it and turned Brody down.

“Sir, are you kidding me? I don’t take stuff. I only take cash.”

“This watch is really expensive. It’s a Rolex.” Brody tried to sound nonchalant, but when he noticed Nelly staying quiet, his brow twitched. He couldn’t help feeling the sting. He’d already lost two watches because of her. But he had already offered to pay and there was no taking it back. Brody just wanted to look generous, thinking there was no way Nelly would actually let him swap a watch worth millions for a river lamp.

“A Rolex?” The vendor gave a little laugh. “Sir, don’t mess with me. Even if it’s a really good fake, I wouldn’t know where to sell it.”

“It’s not a fake…” Brody’s patience was running out. He lifted his wrist and held the watch right up to the vendor’s face. “Look closely.”

“Sir, I really wouldn’t know,” the vendor replied, looking a bit embarrassed. “And honestly, who would ever trade something so valuable for a lamp? I mean… I’m not stupid.”

Brody’s face was turning red with frustration, but he couldn’t find the words to argue back. Nelly turned away, trying so hard not to laugh that her shoulders shook. She managed to hold it in, but a few other customers nearby couldn’t help themselves—they started chuckling. Brody shot them a glare sharp enough to cut glass, and they scattered.

The vendor was starting to get annoyed. “Sir, if you can’t pay, just move along. Don’t get in the way of business.”

Brody let out a scoff. “What did you say? You think I can’t afford it?”

Nelly could see he was about to lose it. She quickly handed the vendor the money. “It’s fine, don’t worry about him. He’s just joking around.” She didn’t even look at Brody, just grabbed the lamp and led Carrie away.
