“Also,” Dr. Lee said quietly, “the psychologist has finished the evaluation. Miss Garland is showing clear signs of separation anxiety and trust issues. This isn’t just a simple emotional problem. Her subconscious has probably been messed with, or someone’s planted a lot of insecurity in her mind. In plain terms, there’s a good chance someone put psychological anchors in her.”

Nelly pressed her nails into her palms, using the sting to keep herself steady.

After the medical team left, Jonah stayed on the call.

He had already pulled some strings and quietly switched out Carrie’s main doctor. For now, Carrie would be kept away from Sheila under the excuse of needing to rest and recover. Jonah also arranged for a team of therapists to help Carrie slowly work through everything.

Hearing all this gave Nelly a bit of comfort, but the pain in her chest barely faded.

She had noticed everything far too late. Her daughter had been suffering in secret for so long. All this time, she’d believed… she’d believed Carrie hated her, just like Brody did.

“And about the kidnapping… Sheila was involved in that too.” Jonah’s voice was hesitant, but he still said it.

Back when Carrie was kidnapped, the suspect had suddenly died during questioning, and the whole investigation got shut down. But Jonah hadn’t dropped it. He’d found his own ways to keep digging, and finally managed to connect the case back to Sheila—through someone Nelly knew as well, Selina.

The kidnapper was Selina’s father.

That one connection said everything.

Nelly’s hand shook. Her nails dug into the edge of her phone, making a faint scraping sound. Just thinking about what her daughter had been through made her want to go after Sheila right now. She had to take a few deep breaths and force herself to calm down.
