“It was your Grandma.” Sheila’s eyes flickered as she spoke. After thinking it over, she decided to tell Carrie the truth about Brody getting hurt and being in the hospital.
Carrie’s eyes filled with panic and her voice trembled. “Ms. Olson, I want to go home. I need to see my dad.”
“Alright, don’t worry. We’re leaving right now.”
Sheila did her best to calm Carrie down, guiding her gently out of the exhibition hall. She had planned to buy tickets for the earliest flight the next morning, but Carrie was way too anxious to wait. Honestly, Sheila couldn’t wait either. Brody was all she could think about. She just wanted to get to him, to be by his side.
When she checked, there were no flights left that night. Feeling frustrated, Sheila had to call Nicholas. His connections really paid off. He didn’t hesitate for a second before arranging a private jet for her.
On the flight back to Westhaven, Carrie started crying, her worry spilling out. Sheila felt her own nerves start to fray. She needed time to process everything Tina had told her. Brody and Nelly had been together these past few days. Sheila couldn’t be sure what had happened, but if Brody got hurt because of Nelly, maybe the two of them had made up. Still, that didn’t add up. If Nelly was still around, Tina wouldn’t have bothered calling her.
Tina had also mentioned that Nelly betrayed Brody and had gotten close to a man from the Watson family. Sheila had always guessed Nelly had someone powerful supporting her, but hearing it was someone from the Watson family made her uneasy.
Everything felt like a tangled mess. Sheila realized she’d have to take things one step at a time.
She looked over at Carrie. She’d hoped that with Nelly gone, she could finally build a better relationship with Carrie. And if Brody found out she and Carrie had left the country together, he’d definitely come looking for them. If Nelly ever found out the three of them had met up overseas… knowing her, there’d be a huge scene. If Nelly was serious about divorce, would Brody really be able to say no?
But plans never seemed to work out the way she imagined.
