When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 255

Nelly finally felt at ease.

After they finished talking about her mother, Nelly’s mind drifted back to the masked man. If he hadn’t appeared out of nowhere to save them, she and Brody might still be fighting for their lives.

“That masked guy… is he one of the bosses here? Why did he help me?” Nelly asked, her voice direct and open. She trusted Jude now, enough to ask him anything.

Jude’s expression turned uneasy. “He’s not exactly a boss in the Underground City, but all the real bosses have to show him respect. His status… it’s special. I really can’t say more than that.”

“As for why he helped you, maybe he just felt sorry for you. Or maybe… there’s some kind of history between you two.” Jude couldn’t help but cough a little after saying that. The man had told him not to say too much. Honestly, Jude didn’t know what the man wanted from Nelly, but from what he’d seen, the guy had treated her better than most, and probably didn’t mean her any harm.

“Alright.” Nelly nodded, not wanting to push Jude any further. She had no interest in getting tangled up with the people from the Underground City anyway.

It wasn’t long before their car left the Underground City behind. Up ahead, a private jet had just landed.

“Your ride’s here.” Jude glanced out the window and nodded toward the plane. “Your friend looks really worried about you.”

Nelly looked out and could just make out Gregory’s figure, standing at the door of the plane.
