When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 235

"That was wild. If we keep winning like this, I’m going to start feeling guilty," Nelly said, rubbing her temples. Brody handed her a bottle of water. "We still have ten hours. Thirty-three more wins to go."

Nelly took a sip, then glanced over at him. "Brody, why are you pushing so hard? Is it just to get out, or are you doing this for me?"

Of course it was to get out. Nelly already knew the answer, but she couldn’t help asking anyway. They’d just been through a whirlwind at the tables. Their teamwork felt almost unreal. For a split second, she wondered if Brody was actually in this for her.

With his skills, Brody could have escaped on his own. She knew it. If it was just about leaving, she was probably just slowing him down, considering she had to find Ben.

"I’m helping you, but I need out too," Brody said, his voice steady.

That made sense. The two weren’t really in conflict. Nelly realized her question had been a little silly. She just shrugged and drank some more water, letting the silence settle between them.

Brody spoke up again. "Who’s Ben, anyway? Is he really worth all this?"

Nelly’s answer came out soft and even. "He’s not. But someone else is."

"Who?" Brody immediately pictured that tall guy with the fancy car, the one who seemed to have it all. Was Ben a friend of his?

"Myself," Nelly said, flashing a quick smile. She closed her eyes, ready to finally get some rest.

Brody didn’t say anything. He couldn’t tell if she was being serious or just messing with him again.

Meanwhile, upstairs in a private office at the top of the casino, Jude glanced over at the man hidden in the shadows. "The person looking for you this time… I don’t think she’s with the others. She just looks like a kid to me."
