When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 128

She tried all day to meet Ms. Watson, but never got a chance. The gifts she sent were quickly returned by Carlos, who said the young lady didn’t like presents. Honestly, it felt like nothing Selina did could ever catch her attention. Someone as proud as Ms. Watson would never be friends with Nelly.

“I have my reasons for thinking this,” Selina insisted. “Remember when Ms. Watson outbid you at that auction? And then, when we went shopping at the Watsons’ department store, we got kicked out...”

“Do you really think Ms. Watson would single us out for no reason?”

Sheila didn’t want to believe it, but Selina’s words made her second-guess everything.

“You said the woman with her today had the last name Watson?”

“Absolutely. I can’t remember her first name, but her last name was definitely Watson!”

Selina noticed Sheila’s hesitation and jumped on it, quickly reminding her how much she valued their friendship and how she would do anything for her, especially when it came to dealing with Nelly.

Sheila took in Selina’s desperate energy, poured another glass of water, and handed it to her.

“Calm down. Here, have some water.”

“Thanks.”

Selina looked at Sheila like she was her last hope.

Sheila understood that Selina needed her. Now Brody was acting so cold lately, and she couldn’t evenget close to Carrie. Sheila figured she could use an ally too.

“So, you want Nelly’s life to be even worse than yours, huh? How about I just give you a bottle of acid and you go splash it on her?”

Sheila smiled calmly as she watched Selina.

Selina was in the middle of a sip and nearly choked, coughing hard.

Sheila burst out laughing. “Relax, I’m kidding. You’d never pull something like that off. Nelly would eat you alive.”

“Yeah...” Selina was genuinely shaken. She wanted payback, but nothing that extreme.

“I heard things aren’t great with your dad. He gambles, right? And he’s mixed up with some shady people?”

Sheila paused to let it sink in, then continued.

Selina nodded, looking lost.

“You must really hate him. If it wasn’t for your dad, your life would be so much better. You definitely wouldn’t be worse off than Nelly.”

Sheila’s words were dangerously convincing. Selina’s eyes darkened, full of anger and frustration.

...

That evening, Nelly and Jonah went to a private French restaurant. You needed a reservation just to get in, and the place was incredibly private. Jonah had booked them a spot out on the stargazing terrace, where the view stretched out forever.
