Nelly thought that even if she asked Teddy straight out, he probably wouldn’t make things difficult. Still, you never know. What if, just like Jessie said, he refused to go along with it? Then they’d have no way to check the tattoo on his finger, and it would just make things awkward between them from then on. Since Jessie cared so much about this, Nelly decided to follow her friend’s plan.
Teddy was ridiculously generous. Carrie had already eaten until she was stuffed, but he still went and bought her even more snacks and drinks. Nelly couldn’t help but joke that if Teddy ever had a daughter, she’d be absolutely spoiled.
Teddy’s voice was easy to listen to, a little deeper than your average guy, smooth and rich. When he sang, it was even better—warm, gentle, and kind of mesmerizing. Nelly honestly thought it was a waste for him not to be a professional singer.
Jessie, though, seemed lost in thought as she stared at Teddy’s profile. Casey had never sung to her. He always said he couldn’t sing, but promised that if he ever learned, he’d sing for her all the time... And now here was Teddy, who looked exactly like him. How could there be two people in the world who looked so alike?
Carrie was still high on excitement, but after a whole day of fun, she got sleepy fast and dozed off in the private room. Nelly covered her daughter with a jacket, caught Jessie’s eye, and nodded. The moment was here.
The music came to a stop, and Teddy noticed Carrie was asleep. He set down the microphone and walked over quietly, giving Nelly a soft smile. The kid was out cold. Time to wrap things up.
There were still a few untouched glasses of juice on the table. Jessie picked one up and motioned to Nelly and Teddy. “I had a great time today. Cheers.”
“Cheers.” Nelly lifted her glass of grape juice.
Jessie clinked her glass with Teddy’s, maybe a little too hard. Juice spilled over, but Teddy dodged it so fast it was like magic. Jessie didn’t even catch the movement.
“You okay?” Teddy asked, seeing that Jessie had ended up spilling juice on her own hand. He quickly handed her a wet wipe.
