When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 369

Jonah always looked so cold and untouchable, but maybe, deep down, there was a softness he kept hidden from everyone.

The car pulled up outside Nelly’s building. Teddy got out first, carefully lifting the sleeping Carrie from the back seat.

“If you need anything, just let me know,” he said quietly.

Nelly gave him a grateful look. “Thank you, Teddy. Really. But… I have one more favor to ask.”

Teddy smiled, almost like he’d been expecting it. “It’s about Jessie, isn’t it? Dr. Morton and I are friends, and we work together. I’d never do anything to her.”

“I know. And I don’t want to interfere. It’s just… Jessie’s a really good person. I hope, no matter what happens, you won’t hurt her.”

Nelly tried to say it as gently as she could. Whether Teddy was Casey or not, he was engaged. He owed Jessie some clarity. The way he’d looked at Jessie today made her nervous. She just hoped Jessie wouldn’t get her heart broken.

Teddy just gave a calm nod. “I promise.”

Nelly watched as Teddy’s car disappeared into the night. Only then did she carry Carrie inside and step into the elevator. Carrie stirred a little in her arms, finally waking up as they stepped out on their floor.

“Mommy… are we home?” she asked in a sleepy voice.

“Yes, sweetheart. We’re home.”

Carrie rubbed her eyes. “Is Daddy back? Did he come home?”

Nelly paused for a moment, her heart aching. “No… he hasn’t.”
