When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 368

For the past few days, whenever Nelly had a quiet moment, she found her mind wandering to Jonah and Nancy. She just couldn’t accept Jonah’s confession that he’d used and betrayed Nancy for his own benefit. Even if he had his reasons, it didn’t add up. Why go so far? Why turn Nancy into an enemy when she was still Felix’s daughter? If it was all about status, wouldn’t getting on Nancy’s bad side just make things more complicated? Was Jonah really that sure Nancy would never have a chance to come back in the Watson family?

Teddy frowned as he tried to remember. “I know they had some kind of falling out, but I don’t really know the details. Maybe it was just because Nancy couldn’t stand Felix.”

So Teddy was in the dark too. Nelly pressed a little more. “You and Jonah used to be so close. Did he ever mention anything… about Nancy?”

Teddy gave her a sly little smile. “Are you trying to play matchmaker or something?”

Nelly blushed. “Maybe… a little.”

“You really care about Jonah, huh? I guess you two are both a little obsessed with each other.”

He seemed to be hinting at something, but Nelly didn’t catch it. “Obsessed? I just mean… he’s helped me a lot, you know?”

Honestly, if there was anything she could do for Jonah, even if it meant getting herself used, she was willing to do it.

Teddy’s tone shifted, turning thoughtful. “Jonah and I grew up together, but after we graduated, we drifted apart. He stuck around Felix, always looking like he was just following orders. I think whatever happened between him and Nancy probably had a lot to do with Felix stirring the pot.”

He paused, then something seemed to click for him. “Actually, there’s one thing I remember. When I was studying abroad, Jonah suddenly reached out and asked if I could help take care of a girl.”

“A girl?” Nelly leaned in, curious.

Teddy nodded. “Yeah. He said he wanted to help her start over, give her a new identity, set her free. He asked me to use my family’s connections. He even said I was the only one he trusted to protect her.”
