Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 612

Brenda reached out, taking his cold, calloused hand in hers, gripping it tightly. Her eyes shimmered with tears, full of tender longing. “We’re still together, aren’t we? Weren’t we always?”

He hesitated, the edge of his smile flickering for a moment.

Then, just like that, he snorted. “It’s been ten years. You’re really still holding onto that?”

“I am. I always will.”

Mitch lifted an eyebrow. He slipped his hand from hers and used his fingers to tilt her chin up, his smile turning icy. “Brenda, we were just messing around back then. Why take it so seriously? Anyway, I’m a convicted killer now. What’s there left to hang onto?”

“That’s not true, Mitch…”

Brenda froze, her whole body stiff for a second, and then the tears slipped out before she could stop them. He reached out to gently wipe them from her cheeks. His touch was soft, almost caring, but his eyes stayed cold.

“Go home,” he told her, his voice gentle. “It’s freezing and you’re barely dressed. Don’t get sick.”

He finished brushing away her tears, then turned and got into a car that was parked nearby. He didn’t look back.

“Mitch!” Brenda only snapped out of it as the car started pulling away. She tried to run after him, but he was gone, the door slamming and the car disappearing down the street. She was left alone, standing there in the cold.

Standing there, Brenda couldn’t even begin to describe how she felt.

Ten years was such a long time. Long enough that she’d almost forgotten what he looked like when he was young, so proud and full of life. But she had never forgotten her promise to him.

If he asked, she’d marry him. No matter who he had become. She’d always say yes, no matter what.

The next morning, Casey sent Madeline an address. She knew it meant he’d arrived with Jordan.

Without hesitating, Madeline finished her breakfast, handed the kids over to Julian for the school run, and got ready to leave with Luke.

Julian was in a miserable mood. Last night, he’d been holed up in the study on a video call by the time Madeline went to bed. She hadn’t wanted to disturb him so she’d gone to sleep. Only this morning did she realize just how upset he was.

He looked even more troubled now.

Madeline blinked at him, glancing at the two boys, both with eyes wide open in surprise.
