Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 610

His voice got a little tighter. “Are you sick?”

Madeline gave Luke a quick look. “It’s not me. Someone I know has been poisoned, but it’s the kind that takes its time. Jordan’s really good at this kind of thing, so I want to see if he can help.”

“Alright, I get it. I’ll bring him to you.”

“No, just send me Jordan’s address. I’ll come over.”

“Isn’t that more trouble for you? Just wait there.”

Before Madeline could say anything else, he’d already hung up.

She slipped her phone into her bag and looked at the busy road ahead. She flagged down a taxi and decided she’d take Luke back home first.

Glancing over at Luke, Madeline noticed there was still a bit of dried blood on his face. She handed him another wet wipe.

“There’s still a little blood you missed. Clean up, would you? I found an antidote expert, really respected in the field. I asked him to help you out. He should arrive by tomorrow morning.”

Luke lowered his gaze. “Alright.”

“Next time, don’t hide things like this from me, okay? Letting someone help never hurts.”

Luke carefully wiped his face, his eyes dropping to hers. “Sorry for all the trouble, Madeline.”

She couldn’t help but smile, shaking her head. “What are you talking about? You keep apologizing, but you know I can’t just ignore you, right?”

Luke sat stiffly, his shoulders rigid. “But I’m just your bodyguard.”

He still only saw himself as someone assigned to protect her, nothing more.

They were both waiting for the car. Madeline leaned against the railing, thinking over her words. “Well, it’s too late, because I already see you as my little brother.”

Luke smiled then.

Madeline studied him. He always seemed so cold, like there was a wall up in his eyes. But when he smiled, there was a light there—something warm that slipped through.

“If I could stay by your side forever, that’d be nice,” he said softly.
