Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 605

The next morning

Sunlight poured in, golden and warm, filling the whole world with a gentle brightness. It was the kind of day that made everything feel a little easier.

Julian got hauled in by Christian at the crack of dawn and, honestly, neither of them looked all that shocked. It was like they’d both known this showdown was coming.

Madeline dropped the boys off at school, then set off for the office.

Luke trailed at her heels the whole way. She glanced back at him, pausing just outside the elevator.

“I’m going to work. You really don’t have to come along, you know. You could stay at home.”

He shook his head. “I have to protect you.”

Luke always meant every word—if he said he was protecting her, he’d watch her every moment, barely blinking.

“If it bothers you, I can make sure you don’t see me around,” he added. “I’ll stay out of your sight.”

Madeline let out an exasperated sigh. “Forget it. Tag along if you want.”

Truth was, telling him to leave would just make him look even more lost, and she didn’t have the heart to chase him away.

She stepped into the elevator, Luke close behind. Just as the doors started drawing shut, Brenda hurried up.

“Wait! Hold up!”

Madeline hit the button, holding the doors open.

Brenda stepped in. She hadn’t noticed Madeline at first, but when she did, her eyes widened. “You’re back!”

Madeline arched a brow. “Didn’t I text you yesterday? I said I’d be back today.”

Brenda flicked her hair back, a little sheepish. “Oh—right. Sorry. I guess I missed it.”

Madeline gave her a quick once-over, noting the tired shadows under Brenda’s eyes. “Have you been doing everything by yourself while I was gone? You look exhausted. Seriously, you need to rest. Your dark circles are showing.”

Brenda just pulled a wry smile. “It’s not work. Just some other stuff.”

The elevator dinged and slid open. Luke cleared his throat. “Madeline, we’re here.”

Brenda turned to look at Luke, then back to Madeline, eyes rounding in exaggerated shock. “Wow, is this your new boyfriend?”
