Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 601

Claire pressed her fingertips to her aching temples. “Quit making excuses for your failures.”

Carter’s gaze dropped even lower.

“Keep looking. Don’t let him find Madeline. If he does, we’re all in deep trouble.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

With a wave of her hand, Claire dismissed him.

She let out a slow breath and rested her head in her palm, closing her eyes. That boy was supposed to protect Madeline, sent by Shelly. But because of Claire’s face, he got confused, thought she was Madeline.

It would have worked out, probably, if Shelly hadn’t given him some warning. He started to question Claire, tested her somehow, and figured out she wasn’t Madeline at all.

Thank God Claire caught on when she did. Poison was her only choice. Now his memory’s a mess. Claire had got him locked away, and at least it kept things from falling apart.

Still, he’s a tricky one. Once he realized he was forgetting things, he got cautious, started leaving himself notes wherever he could.

Now Clare didn’t even know how much he managed to piece together on his own. She wished she had killed him when she had the chance.

Still, he couldn’t survive long without the antidote Claire gave him. His clock’s about to run out.

Claire narrowed her eyes. Doesn’t matter how smart hewas. Sooner or later, he’s still in her hands.

The next morning, since she was heading back to the Capital, Madeline got up early.

Julian had beaten her to it. By the time she finished her morning routine and slipped into the dining room, he was already there, looking like he’d stepped out of a magazine—perfect suit, calm and cool, quietly sipping his coffee like nothing could touch him.

Madeline walked over and offered a gentle “Good morning.”
