The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns novel Chapter 1453

“Handle it. I’ll talk to the brand myself,” Kenneth said quietly, crushing out his cigarette and tossing it in the trash.

He knew this was something he needed to take care of personally if he wanted it done right.

The agent nodded. “I’ll get the car.”

With that, the agent headed out. Kenneth grabbed his jacket, ready to follow, but ran straight into Emily as he turned the corner.

She looked spent, still a little out of it after a day of filming, and stumbled right into his chest.

“Oh, sorry…” Emily mumbled, backing up fast. When she realized who it was, a flicker of panic passed over her face and she blurted out another apology.

Kenneth caught her arms, looking down with a crooked grin. “You sure know how to take advantage of a guy,” he teased. “Last time you kissed me, said it was an accident. Now you run smack into me—another accident, huh? Funny how it always turns out that way.”

Kenneth’s deep voice had just the right amount of dangerous charm, enough to send shivers down Emily’s back.

“So what?” she asked, trying to pull away, but his grip was firm. Her eyes narrowed, her voice a little shaky. “You want me to take responsibility or something?”

Normally, Kenneth would’ve laughed it off, maybe joked, “Keep dreaming.” But he surprised her this time, not missing a beat.

“Yeah, sure. Be responsible for me.”

Emily froze, completely thrown. Had Kenneth just asked her to be responsible for him?

He watched her, clearly enjoying how flustered she was. “Just wait. You owe me more than you think.” Then his fingers gently squeezed her cheek and he smiled, a little mischievous. “Don’t forget what you just said.”

Before she could react, Kenneth slipped on his jacket and strode away, leaving Emily standing there in a daze.

What was that supposed to mean? Did he actually want her to take responsibility for him?

***

The brand Kenneth was meeting with was one of the top names, just shy of Jeva’s reputation. When he said he wanted to buy all the dresses Sabina had borrowed, the manager looked genuinely shocked.
