“Her dress got snatched,” Pam said, not even trying to sugarcoat it. “I’m talking to other brands, but honestly, our chances aren’t looking good.”
Everyone knew borrowing a new design was almost impossible now. And if Emily had to show up in an old dress, she’d become the joke of the night. Especially with Sabina around. Given their past, Sabina would never miss a chance to make Emily look bad.
“Send me the list of brands you talked to.” Kenneth’s voice was calm and a little hoarse after a pause. “I’ll try to help.”
“Thank you, Kenneth,” Pam said, full of relief.
Kenneth had way more clout in the industry than Emily did. If he stepped in, the brands would probably agree just out of respect.
He nodded, about to leave, but something made him pause. He raised his brows, his voice dropping lower. “Oh, by the way, has Jarrod reached out to Emily in private?”
Pam blinked, completely thrown by the question. She stared at Kenneth, totally blank for a second.
Kenneth touched the bridge of his nose and tried to sound casual, like he was just making small talk. “Jarrod doesn’t seem like a good guy. You’re her manager, so keep an eye out.”
“Huh?” Pam was confused all over again. It took her a second, but she finally nodded. “Okay, got it.”
“And another thing…” Kenneth put his hands in his pockets and glanced down the empty hallway, acting like it was a big deal. “She looks like she’s finally getting over her breakup. Just make sure she doesn’t fall for the same mistake again. Honestly, she’s better off never seeing that jerk.”
Pam didn’t know what to say. She winced a little, her face going through a bunch of different expressions. If Kenneth ever figured out that he was the so-called jerk he kept mentioning, she wondered what kind of face he’d make.
“Understood.” Pam nodded and gave an awkward, polite smile. “Kenneth, you really care about Emily—like she’s your own sister. I’ll thank you for her.”
