Kenneth leaned down, kissed Emily gently on the forehead, and carefully scooped her into his arms. He glanced at Charlotte and Anthony.
“I’m going to get Emily out of here.”
Emily was shaking all over. She must have been terrified.
Anthony nodded, his eyes sharp and cold as he glared at Adela. “You should consider yourself lucky that I’m not in the mood for killing today. If you hurt my sister again, even ten lives wouldn’t be enough for you to atone.”
He looked over at Hans. “Hans, you stay and handle it.”
Kenneth slipped an arm around Charlotte’s waist, turning to Hans. “Let’s go,” he said quietly. The air in here was thick and heavy. They needed to get out.
“Yes, Anthony.” Hans nodded respectfully.
Honestly, there wasn’t much left to deal with. On their way over, Charlotte had already sent all of Adela’s crimes and evidence straight to the police.
If it wasn’t for Charlotte’s pregnancy, and Anthony wanting to gather good karma for their kids, Adela would already be dead a hundred times over.
Now, Adela’s limbs were destroyed, but even that seemed merciful compared to decades in prison for what she’d done.
No one noticed that as everyone turned to leave, Adela opened her eyes where she lay on the floor. There was a nasty, twisted smile on her lips.
Emily had been drugged with things that would scramble her memories while she was unconscious.
By the time she woke up, everything would be different.
She wanted a quiet life after all this? Not a chance.
…
Outside, Anthony called home to let everyone know they were safe.
