Thinking back, it really did seem like Kenneth’s mood changed once those filming sessions with Jarrod started.
Pam was at a loss for words. She sighed, feeling helpless. “Babe, just get some sleep, okay?” Maybe she’d wake up with a clearer head.
...
Meanwhile, across town, Sabina—recently buried in scandal—had been lying low for a while. She’d poured a fortune into PR, bought every gig she could, and managed to scrub some of the dirt from her name.
This time, thanks to a short series she’d filmed before it all went downhill, plus calling in every favor possible, she finally got her hands on an invitation to the big event.
“How’s the Jeva spring couture dress coming along?” Sabina scrolled through news on her phone. When she noticed her scandal wasn’t trending anymore, a sly smile tugged at her lips.
“We’re still in touch,” her agent answered quietly. “Our stylist is kinda connected to Jeva’s designer. There’s a good shot we can borrow the dress.”
“That’s the best news.” Sabina’s smile grew deeper. She lowered her voice a little, almost talking to herself. “I heard Emily’s going too?”
The agent nodded. “Yep. After landing the lead in *Storm*, her career’s taking off. She’s getting more and more expensive.”
“Is that right?” Sabina’s face darkened as she thought about everything she’d been through lately. Her eyes filled with pure loathing. “She managed to steal *Storm* right out from under me—she even got Adela’s father kicked out of his own company. Not bad for a newbie.”
“She’s also trying to get the Jeva dress for herself,” the agent added.
“Whatever it takes, get me that gown.” Sabina’s grip on her phone tightened, her words cold and sharp. Just hearing Emily’s name almost made her teeth clench. “This gala is my shot at coming back. Nothing can mess this up.”
Everyone knew Jeva only ever loaned their couture to the top names in the industry. Anyone who wore one of their gowns was guaranteed headlines and wall-to-wall coverage.
It wouldn’t be long before she made her way back into the spotlight. And when that happened, she’d have plenty of opportunities to put Emily in her place.
