After the announcement, the whole place went quiet for maybe three seconds. Then the room exploded with chatter. Wasn’t Storm’s rights supposed to go to Sabina? How did Emily end up getting them?
The audience was packed with Storm fans, but also loads of Sabina and Emily supporters. Right now, Sabina’s fans were straight-up losing it.
“Emily must have done something shady to steal Storm’s rights.”
“Totally,” someone jumped in. “You could tell it was weird when she showed up in the middle of the signing event.”
“Emily is so shameless!”
“Shameless? If you ask me, Sabina’s the one who’s out of line.” Emily’s fans weren’t about to just sit there and take it.
“Emily was the first to talk to the Storm team. She had things pretty much settled. Sabina barged in and now she’s playing the victim?”
“Exactly. Karma’s real, and she just got a taste of it.”
“I heard it was J who made the final call,” one of Emily’s fans said, grinning. “Who’s going to argue with that?”
But it wasn’t just the fans who were stunned. Sabina herself looked completely blindsided. As soon as the results flashed across the big screen, her smile disappeared. Her hands curled into tight fists and her eyes went wide, almost wild. How could this happen? The rights were supposed to be hers. Her assistant promised everything was under control. What went wrong?
Sabina clenched her jaw and glared at Emily, her eyes red and cold.
Emily was a little stunned too. The outcome was clear—Kenneth and J’s talks had worked. But J wasn’t someone who cared about money. So what exactly had Kenneth said to change her mind?
