Emily felt like something heavy was pressing right on her chest. She could barely breathe.
She stood there for what felt like forever before finally turning around, only to spot Charlotte and Anthony not too far away.
“Charlotte. Anthony.” The words came out shaky. Emily tried to steady herself, forcing a smile as she walked over.
Charlotte’s eyes narrowed a little, her lips curved in a soft smile, her whole vibe gentle and calm. “Still working?”
“No, I’m done.” Emily clung to the contract in her hand, totally overwhelmed with gratitude. “Charlotte, you’re incredible. You know how to do everything.”
“Just get ready.” Charlotte was tempted to reach out and pinch Emily’s cheeks again, but she caught sight of Anthony, who was still sulking beside her, and thought better of it.
Emily nodded. “The company’s looking for a screenwriter right now.”
Charlotte’s work deserved the best. Only top-tier production would do.
“That’s not necessary.” Charlotte gave her a small smile. “I’ve got some free time. I’ll write it myself.”
No one knew her comic better than she did. If anyone could make it a hit, it was her.
“Isn’t that going to be too much for you?” Emily glanced at Charlotte’s belly, a little worried.
“It’s nothing.” Charlotte answered without thinking. She glanced over to where Kenneth had disappeared, her voice dropping to a gentle tone. “You and Kenneth…”
“There’s nothing going on between us.” Emily’s face went pale. She rushed to explain, desperate to clear things up. “Charlotte, don’t get the wrong idea.”
And please don’t say anything to Kenneth either.
Charlotte stayed quiet, and Anthony gave Emily a long, searching look. They both understood though. Feelings needed to go both ways. If it was meant to be, it would happen eventually. It just needed time.
Honestly, those two… One was blind, the other mute when it came to love.
“Alright.” Charlotte raised her eyebrows, voice soft. “Get some rest.”
