Who is she? Is she with Emily? Why haven’t I seen her before?
“Emily, what are you doing?” Sabina’s eyes were fixed on Emily, her flawless makeup barely hiding the storm brewing underneath.
Emily stood quietly behind Charlotte, looking every bit the obedient sidekick. When she caught sight of Sabina losing her cool, she couldn’t help but let her lips curl into a faint, teasing smile. “Isn’t it obvious? Just teaching your people some manners and respect.”
“You—”
“No need to thank me,” Emily interrupted, barely hiding a laugh. “We all have a part to play in making the world a little more civilized.”
Sabina’s face darkened even more. She looked like she might explode.
Just a few moments ago, she’d gotten word that Emily was coming to the contract signing. She couldn’t tell if it was the company’s decision or if J was behind it. There were rumors going around that J might show up in person, watching everyone before making the final call. The contract wasn’t signed yet, so anything could happen.
“Don’t think that just because you managed to sneak your way into this event, you’re going to change anything.” Sabina clenched her hands tight and stepped up to Emily, her voice icy and low. “If I were you, I’d be way too scared to get on that stage. Imagine if they announce someone else as the winner. Wouldn’t that be embarrassing?”
She didn’t believe for a second that J would actually show up. And even if he did, she was sure she’d be the one to walk away with the rights.
“It would be pretty embarrassing,” Charlotte said, brushing off her assistant’s hand and wiping her own with a sanitizing wipe. Her voice was calm and cool. “But the real question is, who’s going to be embarrassed?”
Sabina paused, thrown off for a second. Then she let out a cold, confident laugh. “Alright. Let’s wait and see.”
This time, she was going to make sure Emily’s reputation was completely ruined.

The signing event kicked off.
The head of the comic company stepped up to the mic and gave a welcome speech. Emily and Sabina sat in the audience, cameras zeroed in on their faces. In ten minutes, everyone would know who got the rights to Storm.
“Where is J? Why isn’t he here yet?” Kenneth was restless, pacing like he was about to wear a hole in the floor.
“I…”
