Charlotte just replied with a single question mark.
She paused for a few seconds, honestly drawing a blank about what she’d even drawn.
A new message from the editor popped up.
[There are several film companies reaching out right now. We’re still in the negotiation stage. If you’re interested, we can talk more about it.]
The editor’s tone was so polite it was almost apologetic.
But then again, the person they were messaging was the “genius artist” who’d exploded onto the comic scene two years ago.
Back then, comics weren’t nearly as popular as movies. There weren’t any real breakout hits, so nobody in the industry was getting much attention, and investors mostly ignored them. The whole comic business felt like it was being squeezed from all directions.
That all changed two years ago.
A comic called Storm showed up out of nowhere and completely turned things around.
Storm was first posted on a site hardly anyone knew about, and the author updated it whenever they felt like it.
But somehow, this random, low-key comic absolutely took off. Comments, likes, favorites… they all shot up in less than two weeks.
Storm started climbing every chart on the site, blowing up way beyond anyone’s expectations.
Pretty soon, it was everywhere.
Storm wasn’t just a hit—it became a phenomenon. Readers were obsessed. Even the original comic platform became a big deal, all thanks to Storm.
In the last couple of years, the site had gone from unknown to the leader in the industry.
And it was all because of Storm.
But even after Storm got huge, the author—J—kept things super low-key.
She just kept drawing, uploading new chapters whenever she finished them, barely checking messages, and never even bothering to withdraw her earnings.
No one knew who J was. Even the editor had barely talked to her.
Whenever J didn’t respond, the editor would get so anxious it felt like he was going to lose his mind.
Now, with all these film companies fighting for adaptation rights, the price was already up to eight figures.
That kind of money for a comic was basically unheard of.
